What the numbers mean
Every grid on this site is the same two numbers at heart — fantasy points scored at a position, and fantasy points allowed to it — windowed, shrunk toward a prior and ranked. These pages explain how, one sport at a time, and what each sport does differently.
-
NFL
Seventeen games, one a week, and a slate that is decided by Wednesday.
-
NBA
Eighty-two games, most nights, and minutes that move with every injury report.
-
NHL
Lines, power plays and a goalie who decides half the outcome.
-
MLB
A starting pitcher, a park and a lineup card, every day for six months.
-
WNBA
Forty games, short rosters, and the largest per-player swing of any league here.
-
College football
A hundred and thirty teams, wildly uneven, and a schedule that punishes averages.
-
College basketball
Three hundred and fifty programs and a pace range no pro league comes near.
-
Golf
No opponent, no defence — a field of 150 and a cut.
